Ehoodi Kichapi’s work is bold and energetic. Wild colourful layers of paint mould mysterious figures, defined by simple naïve lines. He captivates and provokes his audience.
Like many of his compatriots, Kichapi has had a stronger presence outside of Africa, having exhibited in Brussels, Copenhagen and Naples, then on the continent itself, barring of course his native Kenya. The Alliance Française of Nairobi hosted his first solo show in 2007. Since then his work has sold all over the world, allowing him to become one of Kenya’s most successful artists. This is his first exhibition in South Africa.
Our passion for East African art is what drives us to connect parts of the continent whose art scenes may radiate overseas yet sometimes neglect to engage with each other.
